About the Role

GCG Industries is seeking a CNC Setup Machinist in Fort Wayne who takes pride in precision work and can independently prepare machines for production.

This is not an operator role. Candidates must be comfortable performing full machine setups, including assembling tool holders, setting offsets, and ensuring tooling is production-ready with minimal supervision.

This is not a button-pushing production role.

Requirements


Responsibilities

  • Perform complete CNC setups on mills and lathes (primarily Okuma)

  • Independently assemble tool holders (collets, end mills, drills, etc.) and install tooling correctly for production

  • Set and verify tool offsets, work offsets, and fixture alignment

  • Confirm program readiness and make necessary control-level edits (Okuma/Fanuc)

  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and process issues to maintain production flow and part quality

  • Support first-piece inspections and hold tight tolerances on precision components

  • Read and interpret blueprints and GD&T to ensure accuracy

  • Collaborate with team members to maintain consistent workflow and setup standards

  • Identify and support process improvements without disrupting production stability

  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance throughput, efficiency, and quality


Knowledge

  • Strong hands-on experience performing full CNC setups (not operator-level work)

  • Proven ability to assemble and install tooling for production use

  • Working knowledge of Okuma controls preferred; familiarity with Fanuc controls

  • Understanding of G-code and control-based programming logic

  • Ability to independently troubleshoot tooling, machining, and tolerance issues

  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T interpretation skills

  • Proficient with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)Working knowledge of Okuma controls preferred


Experience

  •  3–5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience, including mills and/or lathes

  • Demonstrated experience performing full machine setups independently, including tooling and offsets

  • Proven experience assembling tool holders and preparing machines for production

  • Experience working in low-volume, high-mix environments preferred

  • Background in aerospace, medical device, or high-precision machining preferred

  • Experience supporting automation or lights-out machining is a plus


Education

·         High school diploma or GED required

·         Technical certification in machining, manufacturing tech, or related field preferred

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time (up to 8–10 hours per shift)

  • Frequent use of hands for tooling setup, measurement, and machine operation

  • Ability to lift and/or move materials and components up to 50 pounds independently

  • Occasional lifting of materials exceeding 50 pounds with assistance or mechanical support

  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach as needed

  • Visual acuity sufficient to read blueprints, digital screens, and precision measuring devices
